Hi, I’m Sarah!

I grew up feeling glimmers before I had a word for it —light catching a leaf, the quiet of being along in my dad’s garden, a story taking shape in my head while my hands were busy with something else. The impulse to notice and to make has never left me.

This curiosity has brought me many places: teaching and studying art and culture in the South Pacific, studying design in Europe, learning traditional craft on Lake Superior’s North Shore, and eventually back to Minneapolis to practice Landscape Architecture. Though I didn’t know it at the time, each new adventure was in pursuit of the same thing: finding the connection between place, story, and the act of making.

Today that pursuit shows up in gouache, mixed-media, acrylic and monoprint. I’m drawn to small moments that feel like glimmers in the way they catch my attention—a particular slant of light, a feeling of being present in something ordinary —and to landscapes in all of their seasons. I love working at both scales: the tiny textural details and the full scene, sometimes in the same piece. Every piece, to me, is both a place and a story.

I work on commissions, murals, and illustration projects, and sell original work and prints through my shop.

Selected clients include the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the University of Minnesota Master Gardeners, Seward Childcare Center, and Jennifer Davis Yoga, among others.
