Community Tree

Childcare center mural—commercial commission

This mural was created for Seward Childcare Center with a specific purpose in mind—a living tree that the center could use to display children’s names, classroom information, and the things that make their community uniquely theirs. Art with a job to do.

The design centers on a large tree whose branches reach across the wall, wide enough to hold whatever the community wants to hang from them. Nestled into the scene are a fox, a butterfly, birds, and a rabibt—quiet inhabitants of the same world, there to be discovered by curious young eyes.

What I love about this kind of commission is the way it grows with the community that uses it. The tree was designed to be a backdrop for people, not just a picture on a wall.

I work with schools, childcare centers, libraries, and businesses on murals that are both beautiful and purposeful. If you have a wall and an idea, I’d love to talk.
